In the absence of a specific nail brief, HHM instructs all female hand models to arrive with nails that are neat, clean, evenly shaped and moisturised — suitable for general commercial photography without any additional preparation cost to the client. Beyond this default standard, HHM's Talent Code of Conduct requires all female hand talent to carry a basic hand care kit to every assignment: a nail file, hand moisturiser and cuticle oil at minimum, plus a clear or nude varnish and nail varnish remover. This kit allows for minor on-set adjustments and ensures the model can respond to small last-minute preparation requests without additional cost or delay.

Unlike male hand models, who typically present with a consistent natural nail state, female hand models may arrive with different nail colours, lengths or finishes from one booking to the next — all within HHM's permitted standards. For productions requiring a specific nail colour, finish, length or shape, the brief must be confirmed with the agency in advance so that the appropriate delivery option can be arranged. The nail look a client sees in a model's portfolio imagery may not reflect her current nails — it reflects a past shoot. For repeat bookings where consistency is important, HHM recommends specifying the required nail look at the time of booking and confirming a delivery option that provides client visibility of the finish before shoot day.

Intricate nail art and unconventional finishes should not be delivered via a third-party salon ahead of the shoot. HHM's Manicure Policy specifies that detailed nail briefs of this kind must be performed by a professional session manicurist working on set — this ensures the brief is executed to exact specifications under the creative team's supervision, allows for real-time adjustments and avoids the risk of a finish that cannot be corrected before camera rolls. Third-party salons typically require prohibited treatments such as gels or acrylics to deliver complex nail work, and the agency does not endorse this route. An on-set manicurist is the correct and recommended option for any brief of this complexity.

Female hand models at HHM maintain their skin as a core professional responsibility — regular moisturising, cuticle care and hand protection are standard practice. Minor variations in skin texture, tone or condition that fall within normal everyday range are expected and manageable on set under professional lighting. What constitutes a production risk is a more significant skin condition — eczema, psoriasis, a visible rash, a cut or bruise in the shooting area — and the agency's Talent Code of Conduct requires models to notify HHM immediately if any such condition arises. This notification obligation exists precisely so the agency can alert the client before the booking is confirmed or while there is still time to adjust plans, rather than a condition being discovered on set.
