Male commercial models are expected to arrive on set well-groomed and professionally presented in line with the pre-assignment brief — clean, neat, and ready to work. Unlike female commercial bookings, where a specific makeup and styling look is typically required, male commercial preparation is generally less prescriptive: the expectation is a consistently maintained natural appearance rather than a specific styled look. Where a brief specifies a particular grooming requirement — clean-shaven, a specific skin or hair treatment — this is confirmed in the brief issued to the model before the shoot. Under HHM's Talent Code of Conduct, arriving unprepared is a breach of the model's professional obligations, not simply a logistical inconvenience.

Facial hair is the most common male-specific preparation consideration in commercial production, and any request to alter it — particularly a request for a model to shave or significantly change a beard that forms part of his established look — goes beyond standard preparation. Where facial hair is central to a model's current appearance and castability, removing it has a direct and lasting impact on his other bookings. Under HHM's standard terms, this kind of holistic appearance change requires additional fees to be negotiated with the model and is entirely subject to his agreement — a model cannot be required to alter his look without consent, and the Talent Code of Conduct explicitly prohibits any appearance-altering treatment without his prior written consent. HHM will always discuss the request with the model before presenting it to the client, and will confirm both his willingness and the associated fee before any booking is finalised. For multi-day productions requiring a consistent facial hair state, continuity requirements are confirmed in the brief issued to the model before the first shoot day.

Under the Talent Code of Conduct, male models are contractually required to notify HHM promptly of any significant change in their physique or measurements. The obligation is sharper for talent focused on commercial, ecommerce, or fashion work, where sizing continuity matters most commercially. For productions where accurate sizing or a specific physique is central to the brief, HHM recommends confirming the model's current measurements at booking rather than relying on portfolio data. Under HHM's standard terms, fittings prior to the shoot day are charged at half the hourly rate with a minimum of £50 per hour — strongly recommended for any brief where garment fit or physical presentation needs to be verified in advance.
